Stars Up Lights Down

The Durham Region Astronomical Association
Light Pollution Abatement Committee

You can help campaign against light pollution in many ways.

Read and familiarize yourself with our education pamphlet, “Your Guide to Responsible Outdoor Lighting” (300k PDF).  Note that this PDF may take several minutes to display properly on your screen. See below for viewing tip.

It is recommended that you save the above PDF file to your hard disk, and then open the saved copy with Acrobat Reader.  Netscape users should right click on the above link and choose “Save Link As...”  IE users should right click on the link and then choose “Save Target As...”

You can help build awareness of light pollution by distributing this pamphlet.

If you want to hear more about light pollution, or can arrange for us to give a formal or informal talk to a group, please contact us.

You can help by sending the message to municipal governments that poor outdoor lighting practices are unwanted and have a detrimental effect on the environment, both directly, and indirectly. Contact your local politicians, and let let them know that you want something done about light pollution. The following material will connect you to your politicians and help you correspond with them:
