The Madawaska Highlands Observatory Presented by Frank Roy
Hosting the two most powerful telescopes on Canadian soil, a world-class Visitors Centre, an upscale hotel with conference Centre; the planned facility will be the premier of its type in the world. The site is located 90 minutes west of Ottawa, Ontario in the Madawaska Highlands; the 100 acre property sits on a 435 metre plateau 1 Km west of the Madawaska River near Griffith.
The project will be described including the site, the two science telescopes technical and scientific merit, the Visitors Centre and its 30”/40” dedicated visitors’ telescopes, the 4.25-star hotel and convention facility.
The author will put the facility into the context of Canada and North America in terms of the offering. The facility is structured as a major tourist attraction in Eastern Ontario, and the only facility of its kind in the Province. The company believes that the setting, theme and first class offering will attract millions over the course of its lifetime and play a major role to make ‘astronomy relevant in Canada’. It is the only major observatory in the world financed by equity investment and financially self-sustaining.
