Ripples in Space Time Presented by Dr. Ilana MacDonald, Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics, University of Toronto
Ilana MacDonald, recently awarded her PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Toronto, will discuss her research in gravitational waves, or ripples in space time, produced by two black holes in close orbit around each other, and the possibility that these ripples will be detected by sensitive detectors in the next few years.

This month's What's Up takes us on a tour of celestial objects well placed for viewing between the February and March meetings.

Location: Bowmanville Branch of the Clarington Public Library, 163 Church St., Bowmanville
Clarington Public Library has invited the DRAA to once again participate at their annual Winter WonderLearn held in mid-February. This year, the event has been relocated to the Bowmanville Branch of the Clarington Public Library, and will be held on Family Day, Monday February 17.
We will set up our full complement of indoor displays, help children make planispheres, promote sensible lighting, and have telescopes on display. If the weather permits, we can offer safe solar viewing in the pedestrian plaza adjacent to the library.
The Bowmanville Branch Library is located at 163 Church Street, Bowmanville
