Signs of Life: Mars 2020 Mission presented by Tim Claydon, Vice-President
The Curiosity Rover landed on Mars in August 2012, and has since changed our view of the surface environment of the red planet. Curiosity has discovered conditions favourable for microbial life, and identifying ancient lake and river beds with geology comparable to Earth, suggesting liquid water over time periods where life could have taken hold. A year from now, the next generation of robotic explorer, Mars 2020, will launch and is expected to land on Mars in September 2020. The Mars 2020 mission will contain the next generation instruments needed to further narrow our search for active life on Mars – along with a suite of new technologies, paving the way for future human explorers to Mars. What will we discover this time?
