"Astronomy in the Park" is the term that the Durham Region Astronomical Association uses to define an event that focuses on providing the public the opportunity to view all manner of celestial objects through big telescopes. If you are interested in astronomy or even considering purchasing a telescope, these events will give you a chance to speak with Association members, and look through a variety of different types of telescopes. The events are generally free of charge, however there may be an admittance fee to the venue, ie: Brooklyn Spring Fair. Take special note of the time the event is planned to take place as some are daytime viewings of the Sun (we must remind you never to look directly at the Sun without proper filters designed for this purpose or else permanetly damage your eyes will result).
Since the Association's public stargazing events are affected by the weather, please check back at this site often to determine if the event is cancelled. We will do our best at updating the site as soon as the conditions are evaluated, but please remember that weather conditions can be very different between your location, and that of the event.
A Note on Laser Pointers
Laser pointers could potentially cause damage to someone's vision and, given this concern, laser pointers are not to be used during DRAA stargazing events. Laser collimating devices are exempt, but shall only be used for collimating a telescope. Your co-operation is appreciated.
If you represent another group or organization and are interested in The Durham Region Astronomical Association attending an observing session at your venue please see the Community Outreach page
